Snow shuts down Southern York County

FEBRUARY 06 - On Friday February 5th at approximately 15:00 hours members of the Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company began a standby detail due to the major snowstorm striking the northeast United States. Crews manned apparatus and handled several calls from medical incidents to traffic accidents. Over the past 24 hours the Shrewsbury area received over 27 inches of snow. Shrewsbury Borough Mayor James Reedy passes away

FEBRUARY 04 - James Weldon Reedy, 89, died Friday, January 29, 2010, at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Elsie G. (Stark) Reedy. Viewing will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary Inc., 24 Second St. New Freedom. Masonic service by Shrewsbury Lodge 423, F&AM will take place at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Mortuary, with the Rev. Multi-car pile up on I83

JANUARY 30 - At 1332 hours, Station 61 was dispatched for an accident with unknown injuries on Interstate 83 in the area of exit 4. Rescue 61 and Engine 61-1 went responding and York advised they were recieving more phone calls on the accident and up to 5 cars may be involved. Brush 61 Assists Station 54 with a brush fire

JANUARY 27 - At 1105 Brush 61 was dispatched to assist station 54 with a brush fire on Davis Valley Rd in Hopewell Township. Brush 61 arrived to find crews from 54 already working to extinguish a fast moving fire on the side of a hill. Brush 61 assisted with extinguishing the fire and mopping up the fire perimeter. Station 61 assists Station 54 with a house fire

JANUARY 23 - At 3:02 this morning, Shrewsbury was dispatched to Church Street in Stewartstown, to assist Station 54 (Stewartstown) with a residential structure fire with entrapment. Engine 61-1 arrived on scene, and established their own water supply. The crew of 5 then assisted with the fire control, ventilation, overhaul, and search duties.

ATR Team Training - Ice Rescue

JANUARY 17 - Members of the York County ATR Team (Stations 9, 36, 61) completed team training to refresh our skills in surface ice rescue. Team members from each station are trained at the Ice Rescue Technician and Operations level. Each team member participated in simluated victim rescues using slings and a new ice rescue sled. Statistics 2009

JANUARY 02 - For the year 2009 our station responded to 880 calls for service. Another record year for the members of Station 61. Our crew members completed 1,747.5 hours of training last year.

Thanks to all of our mutual aid stations for helping us in our community this past year. We also thank our community residents for their support of our carnival, fundraising activities and our bi-annual fund drive. ... (Full Story)

Hain Road Bridge Strikes Again

JANUARY 01 - At 0825 hours Station 61 was alerted for a vehicle accident with injuries and multiple calls, 83 south bound at the Hain Road underpass.

Chief 61-1 arrived on scene to find a single vehicle into the bridge behind the construction zone barrier walls. The driver of the vehicle drove up the embankment and behind the walls.
