Explosion in Shrewsbury

     

Wednesday, February 1, 2012 07:50 At 07:50 on February 1st Shrewsbury Volunteers along with EMS units from Rose EMS were dispatched for a reported burn subject at a local business.  QRS 61 (ems support) responded.  On arrival it was discovered the burn subject was a result of an exploded container which was still smoldering.  QRS 61 requested advanced life support unit (paramedics) for a 21 year old male patient with burns and unknown chest injuries.

Chief 61 (Myers) assumed Command 61 and confirmed the fire was out with no danger to the site.  Chief 61 provided BLS care until arrival of Ambulance 58-1 (Rose EMS) and Medic 97-2 (Wellspan).  EMS personnel treated the conscious patient and transported him to York Hospital.

Chief 61 and 61-2 (Byerly) remained on location and conducted an investigation on the events leading up to the explosion.  The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshall was requested to the scene due to the civilian injuries.  An investigation was conducted and all units cleared the scene at approximately 09:00.
