The evening started with a search detail to find a elderly resident. The resident was found and returned home. Then around 9 pm thunderstorms rolled through the greater Shrewsbury area. Soon after, crews were dispatched for smoke coming from Fire Station 61. Members quickly returned and checked the fire station. No fire or smoke was found and crews were then dispatched up the street for smoke coming from the roof of a building. Crews checked the building and found no smoke or fire. As the rain continued to fall, crews started running flooded out roads and flooded basements. Between 9pm and 11 pm crews from 61 responded to 8 calls for service. As of this writing The National Weather Service Doppler indicated rainfall totals in Shrewsbury were between 3-5 inches.
The members of Shrewsbury would like to remind everyone, if the roadway is coved with water, turn around don’t drown.
