York County Advanced Technical Rescue (ATR) held the Mason-Dixon Trench Weekend May 4,5 and 6. We celebrated our 10th anniversary since the reigns were passed to us from the event founders in Baltimore County Fire Department. Over 100 students participated in the weekend Trench Rescue Operations program. Participants were from technical rescue teams based in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maine and Maryland. Each participant received instruction from a team of experienced instructors in very challenging scenarios that were designed to teach them effective rescue skills in several different types of trench collapses.
Congratulations to Firefighter Jon Meadowcroft and Asst. Chief Dave Byerly who completed the weekend program. Staff from Station 61 supporting the weekend’s events was Chief Myers and Asst. Chief Cadden as lead instructors assisted by Captain Anthony, Lieutenant Goldman and President Caruccio. Special thanks to our Auxiliary for providing breakfast and lunch for the students, instructors and staff.
Station 61 is a member of the York County Advanced Technical Rescue (ATR) team providing technical rescue for structure collapse, confined space, high angle rope, swift water, surface ice and trench rescue. Members train annually in their chosen rescue disciplines in addition to the training requirements for firefighting, hazmat and EMS.
